Everyone loves a good in-home lifestyle session. They’re relaxed, fun, and capture the magic of your home where everyone feels safe and comfortable. In-home sessions are all the rage right now and feel a little different than a traditional outdoor location session. They are a great option for family photo sessions, newborn, or maternity. Here are 5 frequently asked questions about In-Home Lifestyle Sessions that might put your mind at ease about choosing your home as your next photo session location.
1. How should I prep my house for an in-home session?
Listen up moms everywhere! You do not need a model home to have an in-home session! Your home is perfect the way it is because it’s where your family feels safe and happy. In preparation for the session, I would encourage you to tidy up but there’s no need to go crazy. Take a laundry basket around the house and put anything that is out of place in the basket. Take the said basket and hide it. I love an easy fix, don’t you?
2. What rooms are best?
The rooms with the most natural light are the best for in-home sessions, so we’ll spend most of our time in those rooms whether its the kitchen, front room or bedroom. If you’re worried about the lighting of your home, don’t worry, I am an expert at finding light and making it work. Every home has at least one good spot with decent natural light. Recently I did a newborn in-home session in a little home without a lot of natural light. We were able to find light and with a little editing the photos turned out amazing.
3. What to wear?
You can go fancy or more casual. Don’t you just love that? It all depends on the feel that you want in your photos. One thing that I love about in-home sessions is you can go a lot more casual than you can with outdoor sessions. If you need some ideas about clothing I have lots of ideas and suggestions on Pinterest. Check out these boards to find clothes for mom, dad, brother, sister, newborn!
4. What time of day is best for the session?
We want a good amount of light coming in, so mid morning to midday is usually the best time to have a session in your home. I would also recommend that if kids are involved we book a session for before nap time and surrounded by snack times. Those are truly the key to success! If we have to fit in a couple of snacks here or there during the session, don’t worry! I have kids and I get it, family photos should be fun for everyone, and I’ll do my best to make it that way.
5. Why choose in-home over outside location?
An in home session offers a feeling that you can’t get in an outdoor location. It’s a safe space where everyone is comfortable and I feel like that is reflected in the photos. Kids look more relaxed and sometimes they even get to jump on the bed, so that’s a huge bonus. Moms and Dads don’t have to worry about driving anywhere or forgetting something at home.
When trying to decide on an in home session, I’m here to tell you that whatever you feel is best for your family will be beautiful! Whether it’s in-home or outdoor location your family photos will focus on what’s most important, your family. It all comes down to your preference. Which one suits your fancy?
