Your Place or Mine?: Newborn Lifestyle Session

Are there any new or coming soon summer babies out there? Newborn lifestyle sessions are such a sweet way to capture those first few weeks with baby and the family. If you want to know what they’re like, check out this post to read about one of my recent newborn sessions. Newborn sessions can either be indoors or outdoors, but in the dead of summer with this California heat, it’s nice to have an indoor option.

For indoor newborn lifestyle sessions, I recommend two different locations: the MTP studio or your home. There are a couple of factors to consider with these choices but a lot of it comes down to your personal preferences and what you want in your images.

MTP studio:

One major perk of taking photos at my studio is you don’t have to worry about tidying up. All you have to do is show up, take cute pictures and then we’re done! My studio has a nice neutral look and plenty of natural light. One thing to take note of: if you live in a home or apartment that doesn’t get a lot of natural light and is a little darker, then you’ll want to consider the MTP studio for your session. Natural versus artificial light can affect your photos. In my studio, I also have props that mimic a “homey” style like a baby bassinet, a bed and a couch.

Your Home:

The main two things to consider are if your home is open and has plenty of light. Taking photos at your home does require a little more effort, in terms of picking up clutter but if you follow my what to know about a newborn lifestyle session post, you’ll be just fine. One perk of taking photos in your home is that I can truly document what your life and home looks like right now with a newborn. This includes the new nursery, front rooms, bedrooms, etc. If this is a priority to you, then having the session in your home is the best option.

The nice thing is you can’t go wrong either way because what really matters is capturing your family. As always I am happy to talk with you about what option might fit best with what you’re looking for and what you want. Send me an inquiry if you have a baby on the way and let’s book your newborn lifestyle session!
