When to Schedule Newborn Photos: Booking a Photographer

Now it might sound crazy, but when to schedule newborn photos is actually as soon as you start sharing with the world that you’re pregnant. The reason for this is that most experienced photographers are booked a little way in advance and newborns don’t have a lot of flexibility on when they come.

So once you’ve begun sharing with the world that you’re expecting, reach out to any photographers you might be interested in booking with. Since I’m not just a newborn photographer, I only take a limited number of Fresh 48 sessions a month since I need to be more flexible with those and I take just a couple more newborn sessions a month depending on how busy that month usually is for family and child photography.

When to Schedule Newborn Photos: Age of Baby

I usually try to schedule in-home newborn photos when the baby is 7-10 days old. They’re still sleepy and tiny, you’ve had a little time to get settled at home and start your new life. I tend to schedule them on Saturdays around noon since that’s when light is generally best in most homes and dads are usually home on the weekend if they’ve had to go back to work right away.
