Summer can get so busy, and I like the more relaxed schedule, but my kids and I just seem to do a little better and feel like we’ve thoroughly taken advantage of our summer when we have a routine to fall back on. This is why I started a daily summer activities chart for my kids.
This year, all of my kids have computers thanks to the school district which means all of them are very obsessed with Minecraft. If they want to have any screen time, they have to do their chores first and get all of those marked off. If they don’t care about screen time, then no big deal, but if they want it, that’s what they have to do.

We’ll put it in a jar and then once a month or so, we’ll meet and decide as a family what we want to do with it. Spend it on a fancy dinner, going to a water park, buying a new Nintendo game…etc. We will still do things like that even without the family tax, but I thought it was a great way to give everyone a vote and create ownership in the activity with the kids.

I had a few questions on Insta Stories when I was sharing this chore chart with the “family tax” at the bottom. Basically, I saw someone mention this on Instagram (I have no idea who!) but she said she did it in her family and it helped her understand taxes and she wasn’t so aghast when she started her first real job and saw all the taxes taken out.
