I know I talk about almond blossom photos all year round, but they are finally here! If you’ve followed me on Instagram for a while you know that Central Valley Blossoms are one of my favorite parts of being a Fresno photographer. I love when spring is in the air and photos in the blossoms are the perfect way to capture that feeling. If you’ve booked a almond blossom photos session, then you’ve received my prep guide which will be able to answer pretty much any question. But I wanted to write down a few of my Almond Blossom Photos Session suggestions just to cover anything and everything in between.

1. Read through my prep guide! (Yes, it’s that important!)
I can’t stress this enough—read the prep guide! It’s full of helpful information and tips to ensure you feel prepared and confident for your session. By taking the time to review it, you’ll know exactly what to expect, from clothing choices to session timing, and everything in between.
2. If you’re struggling with clothing ideas, I love soft colors in the blossoms.
Choosing the right outfit is key to making your almond blossom photos stand out. Soft, pastel colors work beautifully against the white of the blossoms, giving your photos a fresh and airy feel. Think light pinks, soft blues, and creamy whites. However, if you’d like a little contrast, consider wearing something bright that will pop against the blossoms. Ivy City Co. is one of my favorite places for elegant and fun dresses perfect for almond blossom photos.
3. Layers are great!
The weather during springtime in Fresno can be unpredictable, especially in the evening when temperatures drop. Be sure to bring layers—cardigans, jackets, or scarves—to stay comfortable. It’s always a good idea to dress in layers, especially for kids, so they can stay warm without feeling too bundled up.
4. Choose your shoes wisely
When it comes to footwear, comfort is key. Moms, I recommend wearing flats or wedges instead of heels. The almond orchards can have soft or muddy spots, and high heels can easily get stuck or dirty. Opt for shoes that are stylish yet functional, so you can move easily during the shoot.
5. Don’t wash your car.
This is a tip I’ve learned through experience—don’t wash your car right before heading out to the almond orchard. You’ll be driving on dirt roads, and as much as we try to avoid it, your car will inevitably get a little dusty. No need to stress over that; just embrace it and save the car wash for another day!
6. Be well-rested
A little rest goes a long way. Make sure your kids are well-rested and have taken their naps if needed. A relaxed, happy family makes for the best photos, so take some time to recharge before your session. This also applies to you—ensure you’re feeling rested and ready to enjoy the experience!
7. Bring a toy for nervous kids
If you have younger children who might be a little nervous about the photo session, don’t hesitate to bring a small, familiar toy along. It’s not the end of the world if we need to edit it out later. The goal is to keep your child comfortable and happy, which will result in better photos.
8. Book a full session
If you’re planning to update your family photos and want a variety of shots to choose from, I highly recommend booking a full session. You’ll have more time in front of the camera, and I can take a wider range of photos, from family portraits to individual shots. More time means more memories captured!
9. Where do you want the photos to go?
Before your session, think about where you plan to display your photos. Whether it’s in a living room gallery wall or as part of your holiday cards, visualizing where your photos will go will help you get excited about the session and give you a little extra motivation to push through any pre-photo jitters.
10. A special trip afterwards…
After a successful photo session, why not treat yourself? I always recommend stopping by Thrifty’s Ice Cream to celebrate the memories you’ve just captured. A sweet treat is the perfect way to end the day on a high note. (I’m not the one who made the rules, but I do enforce them!)
