I know that if you don’t get photos taken often, having them taken can get kinda stressful. Here are some ways you can prep for your session so it goes as smoothly as possible! If you have younger kids, tell your them they’re going to go hang out and play with an old friend of yours. Show them pictures of me and of my work on Instagram. This will help them feel a little familiar with what and who to expect. And relax! Let me do the work and worry about how your child is behaving and just have fun! I want to capture the LOVE in families and if you’re worried about how your child is acting, that is what I’m going to capture. I just want to see them and capture them as they are. I encourage you to make this a fun family experience. Instead of bribing your children with a treat (which can back fire when a little child doesn’t understand why they can’t have their ice cream Right Now!), make this a feel good day. Make plans to go out for dinner or a treat before or after the session as a family. Not as a reward but as part of the overall experience. I will worry about your kids behavior, you just need to show up prepared to have fun and relax.
My family sessions are full of games, snuggles, being silly, and just being you. Telling your kids that you’re just going to go play and explore a fun new space will let them know that it’s okay to explore and have fun at the session. I never force kids to do anything they don’t want to do, so don’t worry if they refuse initially. I give them space when they need it and I will find games and activities that will engage them and let them be themselves. The most important thing you can do is to relax, go with the flow and just be your best self. I’ll take care of the rest!
