As your kids grow up, it feels like you can’t get your camera out fast enough to capture their growth and accomplishments. Time keeps on flying by and it feels so important to get photos of those first steps, first smiles, first school years, and every first following. That’s what I love about taking family photos. It captures one moment in a family’s life, specific ages and relationships, and all the magic of little kids and big growing kids. As moms, we love love love to document our kids but sometimes we leave ourselves out of the picture. Whether it’s insecurities or the fact that you’re the designated family photographer, there’s no good excuse for not being in photos.
So what is stopping you from jumping in or booking a session? Is it…
-5th-day unwashed hair
-Rocking the no-makeup look
-Not being your ideal weight
-Not wearing your cutest outfit
-Wearing a shirt covered in spit-up
-Sporting the all too familiar dark circles under your eyes
-Not wanting to interrupt playing kids
-Being so exhausted you can’t do anything
There are lots of personal reasons why you might feel the desire to stay behind the camera instead of getting right smack in front of it. I totally get it! You’re not alone in feeling any of those feelings. But the truth of the matter is – we need you in those photos. Your kids need you right there in front because when they look back at photos they want to see pictures of their mom. You matter to them and that list above is completely off their radar and to be honest, it always will be. When I look back at pictures of my mom when I was a little girl, I am in awe of the woman she was then (and still is). I didn’t know what she was insecure about then because I didn’t and don’t notice those things. I promise your kids won’t either.
On top of that, you are an incredible woman living an amazing life and that needs to be documented. You’ve accomplished a lot! You’re raising tiny humans, maybe building a business, discovering new hobbies and skills, and so much more! You deserve to capture the love and fun of your early life so that years from now you can look back and see all the energy you have. HA! But really, get in the photos and do it for you. Do it for the future you. And do it for the you right now.
Because guess what mama, you’re important and loved and beautiful right now. Jump in front of the camera every once in a while and schedule those family photos. You don’t need to wait until that list of insecurities is gone. Show yourself a little self-love and get your family photos done. I promise you won’t regret it. I know it’s easier said than done so let me help. I understand how you feel and I’ve worked with other mamas who feel the same way too. I will help you find outfits for the family and that one outfit that makes you feel great. I will make sure you are comfortable and your kids are happy and I promise to document the snuggles and the laughs and the right now. Because right now is worthy of capturing.
