Summer Bucket List!

Every summer I come up with a list to try to give my family ideas for things to do during the summer. Some of them are bigger activities (beach trip) and some are easy at home ones (pinterest craft). But having a list to look at and give us ideas as we plan out week each Sunday is helpful for staving off the summer boredom.

One thing that we do is day camping. What that means is we rent a campsite, so we have somewhere to hang out. We do hikes, light a campfire, eat tinfoil dinners, roast marshmallows, splash in the creek. All the fun things we like about camping. Then as the sun starts to set, we clean up, load everything back in the car and drive back home to sleep in our own beds! I know real campers might think we’re crazy. but my kids are still little and sleeping in nature with them and then having to do morning breakfast with them does not sound like my idea of fun right now. When they’re a little older, maybe we’ll try overnight camping but for now, it is super fun for everyone and about as stressful as I want to deal with in making sure no children fall into the fire, get lost or drown in the creek!

This summer I’m adding a summer reading challenge for my newly minted reader girl. I want to keep her motivated with reading all summer long, so I created a printable where she can track the books she reads. Once she’s read 10 books, I’ll let her pick out a new book to read. We also need to update our home library so this will help with that as well!

A few of our favorite local spots are: Skywalk, Superior Dairy, Storyland, Hotrods on the Bluff, and the Fish Hatchery.

Tell me how you keep your kids from forgetting everything they learned in school and how you keep them from whining “I’m booooooooorrrrreeeeddddd” a billion times a day!
