Meghan found me on instagram and I’m so glad she did! She wanted to do a cake smash session for her daughter Sutton (cutest name ever!) who turned ONE on January 18. Mom, dad, and grandma arrived right on time for an adventure into Wildwood Native Park—one of my favorite places to shoot. Mom brought a beautiful little tent she’d made herself with lace and decorated with sweet pink flowers. Sutton was dressed perfectly sweet to go along with her fancy cake smash. Mom also made the ONE letters which looked amazing! She cut out the top of craft cardboard letters, filled it with floral foam and then stuck in a bunch of flowers. So cute, so simple, and added a really sweet and personal touch. We quickly set up and I always take a few photos of mom and dad with baby before we get going on the cake. Documenting families is so important to me and especially with your first baby, you deserve to have some beautiful images celebrating the fact that you just survived your first year of parenthood!!! Go you!
Mom brought a cute cake from Save Mart—did you know you can ask them to customize small smash cakes for fairly cheap??? Mom had them decorate it with a pipped rose design in a soft pale pink. Also, just in case you accidentally drop it, they can whip up a new one in just a few hours. Not that Sutton’s parents would know from experience! : ) Mom presented the cake and Sutton lit up! She couldn’t wait to dig in!
We spent the next 30 minutes watching Sutton enjoy her cake and getting messy. That’s what a cake smash is all about! Getting to squish into that frosting and soft cake and enjoy a little treat. She sat and enjoyed herself for a while before she started getting up and walking around. I’m so glad we live somewhere we can do outside photos year around!
I also got to make a little video to document the experience! I love love love creating these videos to fully document children, families, and love love love. Watch all the way to the end to catch the sweetest giggles!
Her face when she sees that cake is priceless adorable baby girl!
